Uzbekistan Adds Seven Sites to ICESCO’s Initial Cultural Heritage List

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Seven cultural heritage sites in Uzbekistan have been included in the initial list of tangible and intangible heritage of ICESCO.

The decision was made following the 13th session of the Islamic World Cultural Heritage Committee, recently held in the country. As a result, seven out of nine Uzbek heritage sites submitted for consideration received international recognition.

The intangible cultural heritage entries include four areas: traditional woodcarving, miniature painting, calligraphy, and books and tahziba — exemplifying the nation’s written and artistic culture. Three tangible heritage sites were added: the Ancient Termez complex, Shakhrisabz, and Mizdahkan, all of which hold significant value for the study of the region’s history and culture.

With this inclusion, Uzbekistan now has 26 sites on ICESCO’s initial cultural heritage list, highlighting the country’s importance in preserving the cultural heritage of the Islamic world and strengthening its standing on the international cultural stage.
