Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 30 October, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade hosted a meeting with the Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) I. Song, the Press Service of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade reports.
It is difficult to overestimate ADB’s investment contribution to the economy of Uzbekistan: only at the moment a number of large projects are being implemented in the Republic in agriculture, energy, housing and infrastructure construction, water resources management, healthcare, education and the financial sector.
In order to strengthen and develop systemic cooperation, a Business Plan for country operations in Uzbekistan for 2019-2021 was approved, containing specific projects to improve education and labor, develop the capital market and support public-private partnerships that are subject to implementation in this time period, and by the end of this year, the Bank’s Board of Directors is expected to approve additional projects in the field of economic regulation, mortgage lending and agriculture.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed issues related to the holding of the Ministerial Conference of the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program in Tashkent this November, the chairmanship of which this year belongs to Uzbekistan. The agenda of the conference includes a number of key issues for the establishment of intercountry industrial cooperation, the implementation of transnational projects in the field of logistics and the strengthening of trade in the region.
CAREC is a program initiated by ADB in 1997 to stimulate the economic development of the countries of the Central Asian region.
