Uzbek, UAE customs bodies discuss cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting was held at the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan with representatives of the Dubai UAE Customs Service under the leadership of Madam Nodia Abdullah Kamaliy.

During the official visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the United Arab Emirates in March, the Intergovernmental Agreement was signed between the Governments of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates on mutual assistance in customs matters, after which bilateral relations became more active.

The fact that the draft agreement on cooperation in the customs sphere was worked out and signed in record time indicates that there is a long overdue need for professional cooperation between the customs services for the benefit of both states.

Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan M. Azimov noted that this document opens up broad prospects for cooperation between the two customs administrations and that the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan places great hope on strengthening and developing cooperation with the customs administration of the United Arab Emirates.

In order to effectively interact and coordinate the activities of the customs authorities of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the UAE, the meeting reviewed the draft Technical Conditions for Information Interaction, providing for the exchange of preliminary electronic information in real time between the parties on goods and vehicles moved across the customs borders of the States of the Parties, the implementation of which will allow speed up customs clearance, as well as improve the efficiency of customs control.

During the meeting, the parties discussed questions about the possibility of learning from the experience and best practices of customs administration in the United Arab Emirates through the exchange of experts and advanced training of customs officers.

The possibility of establishing mutual cooperation between the Customs Institute of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Abu Dhabi Customs Academy successfully operating in the United Arab Emirates, in which students and customs officials from more than 30 countries study, was also considered.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated November 24, 2018 No. UP-5582 "On additional measures to improve customs administration and increase the efficiency of the state customs service of the Republic of Uzbekistan", construction work is currently underway in 2019-2021, including on the terms of public-private partnership, modern customs terminals in the adjacent territory of border customs posts. Currently, work is underway to design customs terminals using the experience of countries that have achieved the greatest success in this direction.

In accordance with this, the parties discussed the feasibility of studying the experience of the UAE, to study the experience of construction and organization of customs control of modern logistics terminals in the framework of cooperation between the customs services of the two countries.
