Uzbek Senate Reviews 2025 Results and Approves Priorities for 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the 13th plenary session of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the upper chamber of parliament reviewed its activities for 2025 and outlined priority tasks for 2026, in line with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s address to the Oliy Majlis and the nation.

In her speech, the Chairperson of the Senate highlighted the key outcomes of the chamber’s work in legislation, oversight and analytical activities, international cooperation, engagement with local Kengashes, and processing citizens’ appeals.

According to the Senate, 136 laws were considered in 2025, of which 130 were approved. Exercising its new constitutional powers, the upper chamber introduced 13 legislative initiatives focused on protecting citizens’ labor rights and improving the functioning of local government bodies. In the oversight and analytical sphere, 83 events were conducted, identifying over 1,500 pressing issues affecting the population. Following the Senate’s proposals, 2.2 trillion soums will be allocated from the state budget in 2026 to address these issues.

The Senate continued active international and interparliamentary cooperation. New interparliamentary groups were established with 19 countries, numerous meetings with foreign partners were held, and high-level international conferences were organized. Notably, from 5 to 9 April 2025, Tashkent hosted the 150th anniversary assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Significant attention was paid to engagement with local Kengashes and the professional development of deputies. Senate committees regularly held joint field sessions to discuss socio-economic issues in the regions. Over 100 training seminars were conducted to enhance deputies’ professional skills.

During the plenary session, the Senate also defined its key priorities for 2026, including legislative work, parliamentary oversight, regional engagement, strengthening dialogue with citizens, and expanding international cooperation. Senators submitted proposals and adopted a Senate resolution outlining concrete measures and directions of work for the coming year.
