Uzbek Senate Discusses Health Cooperation with UNAIDS
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 17 March, Gulnora Marufova, a member of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Science, Education, and Healthcare, met with Imon Murphy, Regional Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
During the discussions, the parties highlighted UNAIDS’ critical role in preventing the spread of HIV globally, expanding access to treatment, care, and support for people living with HIV, and mitigating the socio-economic impact of the epidemic.
Special attention was given to UNAIDS programs in Uzbekistan aimed at strengthening the national healthcare system, improving monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for HIV/AIDS response, and mobilizing technical and financial support.
Imon Murphy praised Uzbekistan’s achievements in ensuring human rights, developing inclusive legislation, and aligning national laws with international obligations. The discussion also recognized progress in social protection, public health, and gender equality initiatives.
Both sides confirmed their commitment to further collaboration and support for ongoing social sector reforms in Uzbekistan.
