Uzbek President Presented with Plans for Construction of New Airport and High-Speed Highway
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been briefed on the progress of major projects in the country’s transport sector.
It was noted that with the growth of the economy and the acceleration of daily life, the demand for modern transport infrastructure is sharply increasing. According to forecasts, passenger traffic through Tashkent is expected to reach 15 million people by 2030. However, the current airport in the capital is unable to accommodate such volumes, and given its location within the city limits, there is no possibility for expansion.
In this regard, the construction of a new international airport is planned in Tashkent Region. Proposals from foreign companies under public-private partnership arrangements are currently under review. During the presentation, detailed information on all aspects of the project was provided.
Special attention is also being given to the development of road infrastructure. In recent years, investments in new road projects have increased significantly, with measures being taken to ease traffic congestion. To this end, a new draft law “On Automobile Roads” has been prepared, aimed at creating favorable conditions for investors.
Companies from several foreign countries have expressed interest in the implementation of an alternative high-speed highway connecting Tashkent and Samarkand. Officials reported to the head of state on the results of negotiations and the proposals received.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of thoroughly working through these strategically significant projects and moving swiftly toward their practical implementation.
