Uzbek President meets with UNESCO Director-General
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and UNESCO signed a cooperation program until 2021, aimed at developing interaction between the parties.
On 8 October, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Director General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay at headquarters of the organization in Paris.
Uzbek leader noted the deep symbolism that the official visit to France began with a meeting at UNESCO, because the cooperation of Uzbekistan with this organization is developing steadily.
Audrey Azoulay stressed that cooperation with Uzbekistan, in particular, the current meeting is very important for UNESCO.
The UNESCO Director General supported the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan to create the Mirzo Ulugbek International Institute under the auspices of UNESCO in Samarkand for building a culture of peace, tolerance and preventing extremism, creating the Regional Center for Information and Communication Technologies in Education at the University of Information Technologies in Tashkent, opening the UNESCO Chair in University of Tourism in Samarkand.
An agreement was reached on holding a regional forum of young scientists in Central Asia in Uzbekistan, as well as the Asian Forum "Information Technologies in the Service of Cultural Heritage Conservation" in Tashkent in 2019.
The sides confirmed their desire to expand the partnership in preserving the architectural heritage of Uzbekistan.
The UNESCO Director-General highly appreciated the policy of Uzbekistan to preserve its cultural and historical heritage - the heritage of world civilization.
At the end of the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and in 2019 signed the Cooperation Program until 2021, aimed at developing interaction between Uzbekistan and UNESCO.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev wrote an entry in the Book of Honorary Guests of UNESCO.
