Uzbek President Islam Karimov arrives in Sochi
Uzbekistan is represented at the Olympics by a group of athletes, including those who have succeeded in qualifying competitions like the mountain skiers Ksenia Grigorieva and Artyom Voronov, as well as the figure skater Misha Ge. The state flag of the Republic of Uzbekistan was raised in honor of our national team on February 5 in the Olympic village at an official ceremony.
The 22nd Winter Olympics is sixth in a row that the national team of the independent Uzbekistan is taking part in.
Uzbekistan was represented as a sovereign team for the first time in 1994 at the 17th Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, and it was that very contest that our athletes made a remarkable achievement at once, namely, a gold medal was earned in freestyle.
In general, around six thousand Olympians and members of national teams from 105 countries are taking part in the 22nd Winter Games in Sochi.
