Uzbek police seize over 17 kg of opium in south

Uzbek law-enforcement officers have detained an Uzbek citizen suspected of organising drugs trafficking from Afghanistan and Tajikistan, in a border district in the country’s [southernmost] Surkhandarya region [bordering Afghanistan], a report by the Uzbek State Customs Committee on 23 April says.

"During the detention, his bag was seized as it contained 17.9 kg of opium packed in nine packages," the A Regnum news agency reported.

The report also says that 133 g of opium was also seized.
