Uzbek Parliamentary Delegation Participates in Meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 13 November, a meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Dushanbe. The event was attended by the Uzbek parliamentary delegation, led by the Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva.

On the first day of the visit, agenda items of the Council meeting were reviewed. During the session, Valentina Matviyenko, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, was re-elected as Chairperson of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States.

In preparation for the 59th plenary session, the agenda, rules of procedure, and the composition of the editorial board were approved. Information was also presented regarding Tajikistan’s chairmanship of the CIS in 2025. It was noted that Turkmenistan will assume the chairmanship next year.

The meeting approved the chairpersons of the standing committees of the Interparliamentary Assembly. From Uzbekistan, Shukhrat Sharafutdinov, a member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, was appointed head of the Committee on Culture, Information, Tourism, and Sports.

In addition, the work plan of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly for 2026 was adopted, including the holding of Council and committee sessions, international forums, election observation, as well as the implementation of youth and educational programs.

The decisions adopted aim to further strengthen interparliamentary cooperation, enhance coordination in legislative processes, and promote integration initiatives within the CIS framework.
