Uzbek Ministry of Justice Warns Tashkent Bars and Restaurants Over Illegal Setanta Sports Broadcasts
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan has issued warnings to several bars and restaurants in Tashkent for violating copyright and related rights by broadcasting the Setanta Sports channel without authorization.
The action followed a complaint from the UK-based company Eurasian Broadcasting Enterprise Ltd, which owns the Setanta channels. The rights holder demanded measures be taken against the widespread unauthorized public screenings of its content.
During inspections, the Ministry identified illegal broadcasts at six establishments in the capital — Bavaria Plaza, Brasserie, Guten, Dudek, Woodu, and Myata. The owners of these venues have been officially warned.
The Ministry reminded that the rights holder is entitled to claim full compensation for damages. Alternatively, the law provides for compensation ranging from 20 to 1,000 basic calculation units.
The Ministry of Justice urged all food and beverage establishments to strictly comply with copyright and related rights when broadcasting content.
