Uzbek Migrant Detained in the U.S. on Terrorism Suspicion
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An undocumented Uzbek migrant, previously allowed to reside in the United States and employed as a truck driver, has been detained on suspicion of terrorist ties, Fox News reports.
According to Uzbek authorities, 31-year-old Akhror Bozorov has been wanted since 2022 for alleged involvement in a terrorist organization. He is accused of spreading online calls for jihad and recruiting new members. Bozorov was apprehended on November 9 in Kansas while operating a truck.
ICE reports that Bozorov illegally crossed the U.S. border in February 2023, was initially detained by border authorities, but was later released under the current administration. Despite this, he was able to obtain commercial driver’s licenses in Pennsylvania.
In Pennsylvania, certain categories of non-citizens are eligible for driver’s licenses if they possess documentation proving lawful presence. PennDOT officials noted that all foreigners undergo verification through the SAVE system in real time before receiving licenses.
Bozorov’s arrest comes amid increased scrutiny over the issuance of commercial driver’s licenses to migrants, following a high-profile truck accident in Florida involving an undocumented driver.
