According to the Uzbek State Statistics Committee, share of the industry in total industrial production reached 13.8% (12.8% in January-September 2014).
In the reporting period, textile industry produced goods for 6.099 trillion soums, which rose by 17.2% year-on-year, in the reporting period, including silk industry – 6.2%, ginneries – 8.9%, cotton production – 23.2% and knitwear manufacture – 14%.
In nine months of 2015, the clothing industry of Uzbekistan increased production by 19.6%, leather and footwear industry - by 22%.
Light industry enterprises of Tashkent city (14.3% from total production of industry), Ferghana region (13.7%), Andijan region (12.1%) and Samarkand region (9.6%) recorded the largest volume of production in the industry.
About 53.6% of total production of the industry fell to share of small businesses, which increased production by 27.8% year-on-year in January-September 2015.
Currently, there are 8,748 enterprises in light industry, of which 3,434 are textile enterprises, 4,587 enterprises of the clothing industry, 699 - leather and footwear industry. In nine months of 2015, 886 light industry enterprises were created in Uzbekistan, including 250 textile enterprises, 556 clothing enterprises, 73 leather and footwear enterprises.
