Uzbek leader signs law on protection of the reproductive health of citizens

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law “On the protection of the reproductive health of citizens.”

The purpose of this Law is to regulate relations in the field of reproductive health of citizens.

In accordance with the Law, citizens have the right to choose methods of contraception, their use, as well as the rejection of them.

Citizens are provided with medical assistance on an individual selection of contraceptive methods, taking into account the state of health, age and individual characteristics, with the prevention of possible undesirable consequences.

Surgical contraception can be carried out with the consent of an adult capable citizen or spouses or guardians with a citizen’s incapacity.

According to the Law, abortion is carried out at the request of a woman with a gestation period of up to twelve weeks and in the presence of medical indications that threaten the life of a pregnant woman - regardless of the duration of pregnancy.

In accordance with the Law, information on the use of assisted reproductive technologies, as well as on the identity of program participants, constitutes medical secrecy.
