Uzbek leader signs law on limiting smoking of hookahs and electronic cigarettes in public places

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law “On limiting smoking of hookahs and electronic cigarettes in public places” on 2 July 2018.

Legislative Chamber passed the law on 20 June and Senate approved it on 28 June 2018. The document comes into force three months after official publication of the law (the document was published on 3 July).

The document was developed on initiative of a group of MPs of the Democratic Party Milliy Tiklanish faction and is aimed at protecting the health of citizens from the harmful effects of smoking hookah and electronic cigarettes.

According to the law, it is forbidden to smoke hookah and electronic cigarettes in public places. The document specifies the list of public places where smoking hookah and electronic cigarettes are not allowed.

Public places identified libraries, parks, gardens, underground passages, stops, clubs, restaurants, cafes and others.

The law also introduces a restriction on advertising and spell on the promotion of smoking hookah and electronic cigarettes. It is forbidden to allocate rooms and premises in public places for smoking hookah and electronic cigarettes.
