Uzbek language Day set in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Uzbekistan set a Day of Uzbek Language in line with the corresponding law, signed by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 10 April 2020.

The initiative to declare 21 October as the Day of the Uzbek language was made by the Oliy Majlis, the Ministry of Culture, the Union of Writers of Uzbekistan, the Republican Center for Spirituality and Education, the Youth Union of Uzbekistan, the Women's Committee of Uzbekistan and the Development Strategy Center. The head of state approved this proposal last year.

The date was not chosen by chance: 21 October is the day the Uzbek language was granted the state status. On that day in 1989, the Law "On the State Language" was adopted (valid as amended on 21 December 1995, as amended). The President also instructed to develop its new edition, improved to meet the requirements of today.

The law was published in the National Database of Legislation and entered into force on 10 April 2020.
