Uzbek Grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov Wins Chess World Cup in Goa

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov claimed victory at the Chess World Cup, winning the final held in Goa, India.

In the decisive match, Sindarov triumphed over Chinese player Wei Yi in a tiebreak, achieving a historic milestone. The tournament featured over 200 players from around the world.

In the second round of the tiebreak, Sindarov secured victory with a score of 1.5–0.5, earning the title of World Cup champion.

This triumph marks a landmark achievement in the modern history of Uzbek chess. In addition to the prestigious trophy, Sindarov earned US$120,000 from the prize fund.

His success in Goa also secured him a place in the Candidates Tournament — the main qualifying stage to determine the challenger for the reigning World Chess Champion.

Another Uzbek player, Nodirbek Yakubboev, lost to Russian grandmaster Andrey Esipenko in the third-place match and did not qualify for the Candidates Tournament.

At just 19 years old, Javokhir Sindarov not only became the champion of the FIDE World Cup 2025 but also set the record as the youngest winner in the tournament’s history.
