Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A meeting of foreign ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and the Russian Federation Sergei Lavrov has begun in Tashkent.

The meeting discusses development issues and prospects for bilateral political, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation of bilateral Uzbek-Russian relations. The signing of the Cooperation Program between the foreign affairs agencies of the two countries for 2020-2021 is expected.

The ministers noted with satisfaction that over the past two years, relations between Uzbekistan and Russia have acquired a steadily growing and comprehensive character. In the year that ended, more than 130 visits by delegations of ministries and departments, regions, company leaders, and business circles took place in the economic sphere alone. It was emphasized that the positive dynamics was achieved primarily due to the established trusting relationships and mutual understanding between the leaders of the two countries.

Special attention at the meeting was paid to the practical aspects of preparing for the upcoming state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Russia, which is expected to be a landmark event in the modern history of bilateral relations.

During his stay in Uzbekistan, Sergei Lavrov is also expected to visit a branch of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) in Tashkent.
