Uzbek FM holds talks with Latvian delegation
During the meetings, the sides exchanged opinion on current state and perspectives of further deepening Uzbek-Latvian multifaceted dialogue and discussed schedule and agenda for the upcoming bilateral political contacts.
On the same day, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan hosted the twelfth round of political consultations between Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Latvia.
The sides considered issues on bilateral agenda and implementation of agreements, reached within the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov to Latvia in October 2013.
The officials of two states underlined stable dynamics of interstate cooperation in political, trade-economic, investment, humanitarian and other fields, strengthening contacts between cultural and educational institutions of the two countries.
It was stated that both countries are interested in gradual development of mutual beneficial cooperation. Latvia is the third largest trade partner of Uzbekistan in the European Union.
Currently, there are 22 enterprises with Latvian investors in Uzbekistan, of which 5 enterprises are 100% with Latvian capital. They operate in such areas as production of ready textile products, furniture, oil processing, polygraph, logistics and transport services.
The results of the fifth session of intergovernmental commission on economic, industrial and scientific-technical cooperation and roundtable with participation of business circles of two states in April in Riga allowed to analyze current state and develop concrete proposals on expanding trade-economic relations.
The sides also exchanged opinion on separate international and regional issues.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Uzbekistan Edgars Bondars participated in the meeting.
