Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Ambassador Dilyor Khakimov, met with OPCW Director-General Fernando Arias, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported.

The sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation and conduction of joint events at the meeting.

OPCW Director-General expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for attention paid to development of cooperation with the organization. He emphasized that the country, which has a number of modern chemical enterprises and a dynamically developing chemical industry, faithfully implements the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

It was noted that the parties are currently actively preparing for the 19th annual OPCW workshop on aid coordination, which is scheduled to be held in Samarkand on 21-23 April.

It is expected that representatives of various OPCW member countries that provide and receive assistance in developing national capacities in countering threats of the use of chemical weapons will be invited to the event.

The workshop program will cover topics related to providing assistance to victims of the use of chemical weapons, as well as developing national capacity to counter threats of their use.
