Uzbek envoy holds meeting with the head of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 August 2020, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Kuala Lumpur Ravshan Usmanov met with the head of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Azam bin Baki.

The Malaysian side was informed in detail about the large-scale reforms being undertaken in Uzbekistan aimed at preventing and combating corruption, eradicating corruption-generating factors in all spheres of state and social construction, as well as about the main provisions of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On Combating Corruption" from 2017 and information on created by the Anti-Corruption Agency (APC).

Azam bin Baki, highly appreciating the measures taken in Uzbekistan to prevent corruption in all spheres of the state and society, noted that, unfortunately, no country is immunized against this extremely negative phenomenon. In his words, timely detection and suppression of corruption offenses, elimination of their consequences, causes and conditions conducive to them, ensuring the principle of inevitability of responsibility for committing corruption offenses are the main factors for the further development of the country’s economy as a whole.

Speaking about the activities of MACC, the sides noted that the Commission in its work seeks to ensure the rule of law and educate the public against corruption with an emphasis on preventive measures in order to eradicate this type of crime in Malaysia based on the principles of independence, transparency and professionalism.

MACC’s work is based on a "check and balance mechanism" for close and ongoing parliamentary oversight and monitoring of the Commission’s activities by civil society.

During the pandemic, the Commission’s employees were involved in checking the activities of all economic and economic entities, including government agencies, in order to prevent an unreasonable increase in prices for essential goods, laundering funds allocated by the government to support the population and business, and abuse of office in state orders.

Azam bin Baki expressed the readiness of MACC to establish cooperation with the agro-industrial complex and provide expert and advisory assistance for the effective functioning of this department.

Following the negotiations, the following agreements were reached:

- organizing a videoconference between the management of the agro-industrial complex and the AMIS to discuss issues of establishing cooperation, including through the exchange of best practices on improving methods of combating corruption;

- elaboration and signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between AIC and MACC;

- engaging on a remote basis MACC experts to conduct thematic events (webinars and master classes) for representatives of the agro-industrial complex.
