Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister: Construction of New Methane Gas Stations Currently Inadvisable Due to Supply Issues

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The construction of new methane-fueled gas stations in Uzbekistan is currently considered inadvisable due to problems with fuel supply to existing facilities. Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev made this statement on February 6 in Karakalpakstan during a meeting with entrepreneurs.

Mukhtor Tulbaev, head of the company Munoy Green, reported that his firm has been allocated a site in the Navoi district for the construction of a service complex with both gasoline and methane fueling stations, and all necessary documentation has been prepared. However, additional approval from energy authorities is required to begin construction.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the situation with gas supply to methane stations remains critical. “At present, there are no permits for new methane stations. Even existing stations cannot receive gas. You build a facility — and your funds will simply be frozen, because you will not get methane,” Khodjaev said.

Farhod Ermanov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, added that entrepreneurs are being informed of the situation in advance, and in practice, no permits for the construction of new methane stations have been issued since last year.

Tulbaev also noted that he is facing pressure from sponsors demanding an immediate start to construction. In response, the Deputy Prime Minister recommended postponing the project until fuel supplies stabilize.
