Uzbek Deputy District Governor Dismissed After Assaulting Environmental Inspector
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A deputy district governor in Uzbekistan has been dismissed after assaulting an environmental inspector during a field inspection.
The incident occurred in one of the villages of the Buvayda district, where an environmental specialist arrived to stop the illegal cutting of a tree near a local mausoleum. When the inspector attempted to halt the violation, the deputy governor intervened and used physical force against him.
A criminal case has been opened against the official and other individuals involved. The charges include Article 198, Part 2 (damage or destruction of crops, forests, trees or other plants), Article 206, Part 1 (abuse of power or official authority), and Article 219, Part 2 (resisting a government representative or a person performing civic duties). Investigators are working on the case, and the deputy governor has been removed from his position.
