Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An International Trade Fair ‘Fruit Logistica Berlin’ has recently taken place in Berlin, Germany. This year the fair hosted over 78,000 trade visitors from 135 countries and 3,200 exhibitors from 90 countries. As a leading global business platform for the fruit trade it is providing a comprehensive overview over the latest innovations, products and services of the fresh produce supply chain. In 2019, for the first time, the Republic of Uzbekistan participated in “Fruit Logistica” with its stand.
Within the framework of the EU-funded project ‘Sustainable Development in Rural Areas of Uzbekistan’ GIZ and the implementing partners, supported by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, promotes the export of Uzbek agriculture products through exploring new markets and assisting in establishing business partnerships with international clients, growers and processors. Thus, 8 fruit producers and processors from project regions (Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Syrdarya, Namangan and Fergana) were supported to participate in the fruit exhibition and presented their products at the Uzbekistan stand.
The main purpose of the participation was establishing business linkages, demonstrating Uzbek agriculture products to the international market, as well as sourcing new markets for Uzbek agri-products.
One result of participation in the fair was a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Pomegranate Producers’ Cooperative from Syrdarya region and a Dutch company (TGS Business & Development Initiatives) on export of fresh pomegranates to the Netherlands starting from fall 2019.
Furthermore, export of dried fruits, melons and fresh vegetables from the project regions were discussed with representatives of different EU companies.
