Uzbek Customs Institute develops new master’s program with EU support
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10-11 February 2025, with the support of the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10), Uzbekistan’s Customs Institute began developing a new master’s program. This initiative aims to align customs training with the professional and accreditation standards of the World Customs Organization (WCO).
The event brought together representatives from the Customs Institute, the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan, and BOMCA 10 experts from Riga Technical University. The discussions resulted in recommendations to adapt the curriculum to EU standards in customs and tax administration, fostering closer cooperation between the EU and Uzbekistan and facilitating trade processes.
The new master’s program is based on internationally recognized frameworks, including WCO’s Professional Standards and the EU TAXUD Competency Framework for customs administration. This will provide students with up-to-date knowledge on modern customs procedures and international trade regulations.
Designed to produce highly qualified specialists, the program focuses on international trade, border security, and customs facilitation. Its compliance with global standards will open new career opportunities for graduates and enhance the Customs Institute’s international reputation.
WCO accreditation will strengthen the institute’s global partnerships, enabling collaboration with leading academic institutions specializing in customs administration. Graduates will gain a competitive edge in the international job market, contributing to Uzbekistan’s economic development.
By supporting this initiative, the EU and WCO are helping to bridge training gaps and bringing Uzbekistan closer to WCO accession. This aligns with the country’s strategic goals of global economic integration and modernization of customs administration.
