Uzbek Courts Handle Over 63,000 Criminal Cases in 2025
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2025, courts in Uzbekistan reviewed 63,177 criminal cases involving 79,554 individuals, according to the country’s Supreme Court.
As a result, 422 people were acquitted and rehabilitated, while 63,340 were found guilty. Among the convicted, 18,816 received prison sentences, 43,531 were given alternative punishments, and 993 were sentenced conditionally.
Of those convicted, 55,829 were men, 7,511 women, and 23,973 were young people, including 2,431 minors; 2,830 were over the age of 60. The largest number of cases was considered in Tashkent, as well as in the Ferghana, Tashkent, Samarkand, and Namangan regions.
The main categories of crime included fraud, traffic violations and vehicle operation offenses, theft, illegal circulation of narcotic and psychotropic substances, embezzlement, forgery of documents and seals, promotion of prostitution, illegal cultivation of prohibited crops, and intentional infliction of bodily harm of medium severity.
Courts applied measures of mitigation and reconciliation: 8,085 individuals were exempted from non-custodial punishments, 35,572 received conditional early release, and 11,421 had their sentences replaced with more lenient ones. Through the institution of reconciliation, 13,224 people were fully released from criminal liability.
Additionally, charges against 15,992 individuals were initially dropped or reclassified by investigative authorities, and 86 citizens benefited from letters of guarantee.
In appellate courts, 7,723 criminal cases involving 10,423 individuals were reviewed, with first-instance decisions overturned for 340 people and modified for 2,375. In cassation proceedings, 5,505 cases involving 6,197 individuals were reviewed, with 379 decisions overturned and 1,383 modified. Supervisory review covered 5,573 cases involving 6,587 individuals, with 173 decisions overturned and 813 changed.
The Supreme Court’s Criminal Chamber reviewed 915 cases concerning 1,072 individuals, overturning decisions in 213 cases and modifying 325. Furthermore, 45,323 private rulings were issued to address factors contributing to the commission of crimes.
The report confirms that effective use of reconciliation mechanisms and other tools helped reduce the burden on courts while enhancing fairness in the adjudication of criminal cases.
