Uzbek Citizens Repatriated from Myanmar Following Human Trafficking Case
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Four Uzbek citizens, who became victims of human trafficking in Myanmar, have been successfully repatriated with the assistance of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Bangkok and the authorities of Thailand, the diplomatic mission reported.
According to the consulate, the individuals had traveled to Thailand seeking high-paying online work with a free airfare provided from Uzbekistan. However, they were deceitfully transferred to Myanmar, where criminal groups forced them to work in fraudulent call centers under threats of violence.
A citizen of Kazakhstan and a citizen of Kyrgyzstan were also caught in similar circumstances. At the request of the Kyrgyz authorities, diplomats from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan assisted in their repatriation. Following coordinated actions with the competent authorities of Myanmar and Thailand, all victims were released and handed over to diplomats at the Mae Sot border checkpoint in Thailand.
On 9 December 2025, the Uzbek, Kazakh, and Kyrgyz citizens were successfully returned to their home countries. The Consulate General urges citizens to exercise caution when seeking employment abroad and assures full consular support in Southeast Asian countries.
