Uzbek citizens from 1 July can travel abroad only with bio passports

The Government of Uzbekistan issued a resolution “On measures on improving order of travel of the citizens of Uzbekistan to abroad” on 6 February 2014.

The document was adopted in order to improve passport system, taking into account modern international standards and requirements, simplify procedures of passport control for citizens of Uzbekistan at international border points, as well as ensure efficient protection of their rights and freedoms.

According to the resolution, from 1 July 2014 the citizens of Uzbekistan can travel to abroad only with biometric passports.

From 1 July 2014, the citizens of Uzbekistan, travelling abroad, can register and purchase air and railway tickets only with the biometric passports, the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

The Government entrusted the State Center for personalization under the Cabinet of Ministers, Ministry of Interior Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide biometric passports to citizens, planning to travel abroad, in time.

Biometric passports are introduced in line with the presidential decree “On measures of improving passport system of Uzbekistan” from 23 June 2009. Uzbekistan will fully transfer to biometric system of passportization by the end of 2015.
