Uzbek Citizens Can Drive in the UAE with National Licenses Without Additional Exams
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Interior of the United Arab Emirates has added Uzbekistan to its updated list of countries whose citizens are allowed to drive in the UAE using their national driver’s licenses, Gulf News reports.
This means that Uzbek citizens no longer need to obtain an International Driving Permit (IDP) or pass driving tests — whether they are visiting the UAE as tourists or moving there for temporary or permanent residence.
While in the country on a tourist visa, Uzbek nationals can legally drive a car or motorcycle by presenting a valid national driver’s license — without needing additional permits, documentation, or tests.
For those relocating to the UAE for work or study, there is now a straightforward process to exchange their Uzbek driver’s license for an Emirati one. Requirements include a valid resident visa, a notarized translation of the license, a medical check including a vision test, and payment of a government fee of AED 600 (approximately 1.8 million soums).
The exchange process can be completed remotely via the UAE Ministry of Interior’s online platform. Users upload the required documents, fill out the application form, and upon approval, receive their new license either digitally or by delivery.
