Uzbek Citizen Wanted by Interpol on Rape Charges Extradited from Georgia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A citizen of Uzbekistan who had been on the international wanted list via Interpol has been extradited from Georgia to Uzbekistan, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.

According to the ministry, the man was wanted by law enforcement authorities on suspicion of committing a crime under Article 118 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (rape). In an attempt to evade the investigation, he had gone into hiding on the territory of Georgia.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that this extradition marks the third case over the past two months in which Georgian authorities have handed over wanted Uzbek citizens, reflecting the high level and effectiveness of bilateral cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of the two countries.

The extradited individual was transported to Uzbekistan under escort by officers of the National Central Bureau of Interpol and handed over to the competent authorities for further procedural actions and prosecution in accordance with the law.
