Uzbek carmaker to focus on production of cheap cars for about US$10,000

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In the next 5 years, Uzbekistan will start production of inexpensive cars worth US$10,000, and after - mini-crossovers for US$15,000, according to Uzavtosanoat (Uzbek Car Industry).

The Uzbek company developed a Concept for the development of the automotive industry in Uzbekistan, developed for the period up to 2030.

 “The concept will soon be published on the Internet portal for review and discussion,” Rustam Kadirov, Head of the Strategic Planning Directorate of Uzavtosanoat, said. - The document covers 2 promising areas: in the next 5 years, the focus will be on the production of cheap cars at a price of about US$10,000. We forecast high demand for them. Also, world experience shows that crossovers, off-road vehicles, are popular from year to year. Based on this, the second direction is the release of mini-crossovers, the price of which will be about US$15,000.”

Officials Uzavtosanoat said that by the end of this year it is planned to start production of cars of the premium segment: the Chevrolet Equinox crossover, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Chevrolet Traverse family crossover.

Production will depend solely on demand, since the number of people who can afford such a car is small. Currently, the production of premium cars does not even make up 10% of the entire production of the automobile company.
