Uzbek Banks Strengthen Mobile App Security for Users
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Starting from 22 April, banking applications in Uzbekistan will adopt an enhanced security mode, significantly changing the registration process and the use and protection of financial services.
The new measures aim to prevent fraud and establish multi-layered protection for users. During account registration, banks will automatically verify whether the phone number matches the client’s PINFL. If the number belongs to another person, creating an account will be impossible.
Linking bank cards will now be separate from registration: after creating a profile, a separate authorization will be required using a login, password, and a one-time six-digit code valid for 59 seconds. Only personal cards or those of close relatives can be linked, with the system strictly monitoring phone number alignment with the account.
The entire process will include biometric “liveness detection” to prevent the use of photos or videos. When changing a smartphone or recovering a password, the app will automatically track the device model, operating system version, and IP address.
Any login from a new device will trigger an SMS alert, unlink all cards, and clear transaction history. Users must complete a full biometric verification to resume app access.
To prevent manipulations via phone calls or messengers like Telegram and WhatsApp, the apps will block transfers during calls or if remote access or malware is detected. Idle sessions are now limited to three minutes, after which they automatically close.
Users can view all active sessions in real time and immediately disconnect suspicious devices. Before each significant transfer, a warning will prompt the user to perform the operation independently, without outside pressure.
These comprehensive measures aim to strengthen the security of mobile banking, safeguard user funds, and prevent fraudulent activity.
