Uzbek Authorities Detain Citizen for Illegal Starlink Import

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Customs officers at the Jartepa border post intercepted a Mercedes-Benz entering Uzbekistan from a neighboring country, driven by a citizen found carrying undeclared Starlink satellite equipment.

During the vehicle inspection, authorities discovered the Starlink device in the trunk, valued at approximately 6 million soms. The equipment was not declared on the passenger’s customs form and was imported without the required permit.

According to the Samarkand Regional Electromagnetic Compatibility Service, importing and using such equipment in Uzbekistan is only permitted with a special authorization.

A criminal case has been opened against the individual under relevant articles of the Uzbek Criminal Code, and investigative actions are ongoing.
