Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 5 February 2020, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Javlon Vakhabov in Washington met with the leading expert on Central Asia of the US Congressional Research Service, Maria Blackwood, who was specially hired by the American parliament to cover the socio-political situation in the region.

Maria Blackwood is the author of the report “Reforms in Uzbekistan” published by the Research Service on15 January, which objectively highlights five key aspects, including Uzbek-American relations, economic liberalization, human rights and civil society, democratization processes, as well as relations between the republic and the US Congress .

The ambassador in an interview brought to the American expert the progress of socio-economic reforms in our country, as well as the content and essence of the Address of the President of Uzbekistan Oliy Majlis, the identified priorities and tasks for the near future.

The American expert, in turn, commenting on the assessments of the US Congress on the reforms in Uzbekistan, said that “the fundamental reforms that began with the election of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev are reflected today in the policies of the leaders of other Central Asian countries. Improvements of a regional scale served as an impetus for a significant increase in the interest of American lawmakers in the events taking place in Uzbekistan and in neighboring republics. ”

In order to further inform the American public about the current processes in the Central Asian region, an agreement was reached on the joint organization of a special round table in the Library of Congress in the second half of February with the participation of authoritative representatives of political, analytical, and academic circles of the United States.

The parties also agreed to organize a briefing of the Uzbek delegation in Washington as part of the upcoming bilateral political consultations.

Based on the results of these events, the Congressional Research Service will prepare a voluminous report that reflects comprehensive reforms in Uzbekistan. The publication of the material is expected before the end of May.
