Uzbek Agriculture Minister visits Research Institute of Breeding, Seed Production and Agricultural Technologies for Cotton Growing

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the information service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a Republican working group led by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khojaev visited the Research Institute of Breeding, Seed Production and Agricultural Technologies for Cotton Growing.

In the information, in particular, it was noted that the Research Institute of Breeding, Seed Breeding and Agricultural Technologies for Cotton Growing was organized in 1922. Today, 574 employees work here, 36 doctors of science are conducting research activities. To keep the collection of wild cotton samples alive, to reduce the breeding process in creating new varieties of cotton, and to assess disease and pest tolerance, the institute has a unique phytotron facility and an experimental monoculture field for perennial cotton.

The institute, which has almost a century of history, has done a lot of work on genetics, breeding, cotton seed production, and cotton growing technologies. Despite this, questions are waiting to be resolved on the radical improvement of the institute, the modernization of its material and technical base, comprehensive support of personnel, and the creation of new trends in the introduction of modern equipment.

The research institute will expand contacts with the cotton-growing clusters created in Uzbekistan, and will establish cooperation in introducing the BCI certification system in cotton growing. Widely exploits the opportunities for developing the sustainable and value chain in the cotton industry.

Credit facilities of the World Bank will be directed to modernize the sphere and increase its economic efficiency as part of a project to improve agriculture in Uzbekistan, the press service said.
