Uzatom and Rosatom hold meeting in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The starting meeting of the working groups of the “Uzatom” Agency and the State Corporation “Rosatom” took place in Tashkent on 17 December 2018.
The Russian delegation arrived in Uzbekistan was headed by Alexander Lokshin, the First Deputy Director General for Operational Management of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM.
During the meeting, the Uzbek side provided information on the status of engineering surveys, the purpose of which is to select a site for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, as well as the Uzatom Agency approved an engineering survey program.
At the talks, the Uzbek side was handed over projects of the first contracts for the project. The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM also presented materials on approaches to contracting for the NPP construction project in the Republic of Uzbekistan and the target negotiation plan. The parties plan to begin contract negotiations in 2019.
On 7 September 2018, Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation between the two countries in the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan on the Russian project. The project envisages the construction of 2 power units with VVER-1200 type reactors.
