“Uzatom” and “Rosatom” Discuss Workforce Training for Uzbekistan’s Integrated Nuclear Power Plant Project
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Agency “Uzatom” and the state corporation “Rosatom” held discussions on workforce training for the future integrated nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
The joint working group meeting took place in Moscow, attended by Uzatom Director Azim Ahmedkhadzhayev and Rosatom Deputy General Director for Personnel Tatiana Terentyeva.
The parties reviewed the country-specific plan for specialist training, measures to support young professionals, and the intermediate stages of the roadmap approved in May of this year.
Particular attention was given to the establishment of an “Advanced Engineering School” at the Tashkent branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, scheduled to open in October 2025.
Laboratories in energy auditing, photovoltaic energy, and nanotechnology are already operational, and by the end of the year a radiation monitoring and dosimetry center will open.
Twenty students have been selected for training at the school, and from the new academic year, master’s programs in nuclear specialties will begin at Tashkent MEPhI.
Starting in 2026, graduates of relevant universities will be able to undertake internships at Rosatom facilities, with quotas set to be expanded.
In parallel, training programs for technical personnel with secondary specialized education are being prepared, including projects at the polytechnic in the Farish district of Jizzakh region.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their intention to systematically develop a training system for specialists in Uzbekistan’s nuclear industry in line with the construction of the integrated nuclear power plant.
