Use of Chrysotile-Cement Roofing Sheets Declared Safe — Official Clarification

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In response to social media publications raising concerns about potential health risks associated with the use of roofing sheets and asbestos-based products, the Information Service of the Uzsanoatqurilishmateriallari Association has issued an official clarification.

Uzbekistan produces only chrysotile-asbestos fiber cement roofing sheets, with raw materials imported from Russia, Kazakhstan, and China.

According to the conclusion of the Committee on Sanitary and Epidemiological Safety and Public Health under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, current sanitary rules and hygiene standards permit the use of chrysotile asbestos in the production of roofing materials and wastewater pipelines. No bans on the use of this material are in place.

Thus, chrysotile-cement roofing sheets manufactured in the country fully comply with sanitary requirements and are deemed safe for use in construction.
