U.S. Suspends Green Card Lottery Following Shooting at Brown University
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced the suspension of the Diversity Visa (DV1) lottery program following the shooting at Brown University, in which Uzbek student Muhammad Aziz Umurzakov was killed.
According to Noem, the suspect, Claudio Manuel Neves Valente, entered the United States in 2017 through the DV1 program and had obtained a green card. “This horrific individual should never have been allowed into our country,” the Secretary emphasized.
She recalled that in 2017, then-President Donald Trump had already sought to end the DV1 program following a terrorist attack in New York carried out by an ISIS-affiliated individual who also entered the U.S. through the lottery.
Noem stated that under Trump’s directive, USCIS suspended participation in the program to prevent further tragic incidents. The DV1 program is temporarily suspended pending further decisions by U.S. authorities.
The Brown University shooter, Claudio Manuel Neves Valente entered the United States through the diversity lottery immigrant visa program (DV1) in 2017 and was granted a green card. This heinous individual should never have been allowed in our country.
