Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) –– On 6 December 2019, Ambassador of Uzbekistan Javlon Vakhabov in Washington took part in a “round table” in the Atlantic Council, which discussed the outcome of the Consultative Meeting of Heads of the Central Asian states, which was held in Tashkent on 29 November.
The Atlantic Council is an American think tank established in 1961 under NATO and is a forum for political, business and intellectual leaders.
The event was attended by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Jonathan Henick and other representatives of the Department of State, former United States ambassadors to Central Asia, as well as representatives of leading American think tanks, including the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, the American Institute Foreign Policy, Center for International Private Enterprise.
In his speech, the Ambassador informed the participants about the significance of the meeting of the leaders of the Central Asian states in Tashkent, the key results of this summit, as well as the initiatives put forward by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It was emphasized that this meeting gave the heads of state of the region the opportunity to identify forms and mechanisms that contribute to the elimination of trade barriers and closer economic cooperation, the modernization of energy infrastructure and the expansion of transit opportunities in Central Asia.
Experts generally appreciated the results of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States in Tashkent and noted that it was held in the context of a completely new dynamics of trusting relations between the countries of the region, which creates a reliable basis for resolving long-standing contradictions and a significant breakthrough in trade and economic partnership.
