US and Uzbekistan Discuss Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau held talks with Abdulaziz Kamilov, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan for Foreign Policy, and his accompanying delegation, according to US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott.

During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for expanding cooperation across key areas. Priority topics included counterterrorism efforts, combating illegal migration, and the development of trade, economic, and defense ties.

A State Department statement noted that the United States is interested in further strengthening bilateral relations with Uzbekistan, including within the regional C5+1 framework.

Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, Christopher Landau emphasized the deepening engagement with Central Asian countries. He said that strengthening relations with the region has been one of his key priorities since taking office nearly a year ago. He noted that Central Asia possesses significant potential, including rich historical and cultural heritage, as well as human and natural resources.

Landau added that, with the support of US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, substantial progress has been achieved. Stable economic and partnership ties have now been established between the United States and countries of the region, along with effective working-level contacts.

He also welcomed the visit of Abdulaziz Kamilov and his delegation, highlighting the importance of direct dialogue. According to him, discussions covered security issues, investment cooperation, and migration policy.
