UNWTO Secretary-General Visits Uzbekistan’s Islamic Civilization Center
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 2 April 2026, a delegation led by UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais visited the Islamic Civilization Center in Uzbekistan.
The delegation was accompanied by official representatives of the country. The Islamic Civilization Center is one of the largest museum projects in the region, built according to a high-concept architectural design.
The foundation of the complex was laid by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2018, and the center was officially inaugurated on March 17, 2026, in the presence of the head of state.
During the visit, guests explored key exhibitions, including the Quran Hall, which houses a rare 7th-century manuscript — the Mushaf of Uthman ibn Affan. The display of this unique artifact was accompanied by a modern mapping show.
Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais emphasized the significance of the visit and highlighted that the Islamic Civilization Center will become a major attraction for both tourists and residents of Uzbekistan.
