Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The First Deputy Chairman of the Senate Sodik Safoyev held a meeting with the UN Country Team, consisting of a group of representatives of various structures of this organization in Uzbekistan, headed by the UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Uzbekistan, Helena Fraser.
The meeting was attended by representatives of such UN agencies as the United Nations Development Program, UNESCO, the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund - UNICEF, and members of Senate committees.
During the meeting, it was noted that in accordance with the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly No. 70 adopted at the UN Summit on Sustainable Development in September 2015, as well as with the aim of organizing systematic work for the consistent implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN Global Agenda Until 2030 last year, the relevant Cabinet Decision approved the National Sustainable Development Goals and Tasks for the period until 2030.
In addition, the corresponding Road Map was adopted in this direction. Based on this, during the meeting, the results of its implementation in 2019 were discussed, as well as further steps to ensure coordination of the parties' efforts to implement the planned activities.
In particular, it was noted that parliaments all over the world are playing an increasingly important role in supporting and monitoring the implementation of sustainable development goals. It was emphasized that today the UN structures are actively cooperating in this direction with the Senate Committees of the Oliy Majlis, which contributes to the promotion and implementation of the national SDGs.
The meeting discussed the possibility of forming a parliamentary commission on the SDGs. The parties also considered other issues on the current agenda of bilateral cooperation.
