UNICEF Calls for Digital Transformation of Uzbekistan’s Education System

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On Teacher and Mentor Day, UNICEF’s Uzbekistan office emphasized the crucial role of educators in the country’s digital transformation of education. According to the organization, 540,000 teachers work in schools and 174,000 in preschool institutions, shaping the skills and values of the next generation every day.

UNICEF Representative Regina Maria Castillo stated: “Teachers are the foundation of education and the driving force of change and innovation. Technology and artificial intelligence should not replace them; rather, teachers must have the ability to use technology, personalize learning, inspire creativity, and expand the potential of every child.”

UNICEF, in collaboration with the Government of Uzbekistan, actively supports professional development for teachers, the integration of digital innovations, and inclusive educational practices. Initiatives already implemented include AI-based tools to improve mathematics teaching, successful Eduten and Teacher Pro pilot projects demonstrating a 17% improvement in learning outcomes, and the Bolalik Akademiyasi platform, which serves around 40,000 educators.

Additionally, the Jalinga studio, supported by the Islamic Development Bank, is developing AI-based digital and multimedia resources for blended learning, enhancing teachers’ capacities and modernizing the educational process.

UNICEF and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education plan to equip all teachers with modern methodologies and digital skills over the next five years. The program aims to improve education quality for more than 6.5 million schoolchildren and nearly 2.4 million preschool-aged children in a rapidly changing world.

“On Teacher and Mentor Day, we salute over 600,000 educators across Uzbekistan, who are the true creators of national transformation and the driving force behind the country’s human capital development,” Regina Maria Castillo emphasized.
