UNESCO head visits Center for children social adaptation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Irina Bokova visited the Republican Center for Social Adaptation of Children within her official visit to Uzbekistan.

Specialists of the information-consulting service under the Center briefed the guest about main directions of the work of the center and information-consulting service, which equips the center with latest equipment and render free complex help to children with the disabilities from all regions of Uzbekistan.

Irina Bokova also familiarized with innovative equipment of the Center, which are used to rehabilitate the children. She also got acquainted with the other departments of the center, which provide various medical services to children with disabilities.

During the event, Irina Bokova received a gift, which was made by children with the disabilities. At the end of the visit, Ms Bokova left a record at the guests book of the Center.

Republican Centre for the Social Adaptation of Children (RCSAC) was established in 2004 under the aegis of the Uzbek government at the initiative of Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva to provide comprehensive support to children with developmental delay and impairment, children from vulnerable groups and underprivileged families as well as children in special need who are deprived of parental care.

The Centre protects the rights and interests of children with disabilities and special needs through providing assistance in developing draft laws as well as improving services in the field of supporting children with impairments, learning difficulties and behavioral problems.

RCSAC’s main goal is to ensure that every child that comes to the centre gets needed support, special education and therapy to fulfil his or her potential.

Since 2004 the Centre has provided support and assistance in their integration into society to over 10,690 children from vulnerable groups and their families, including about 4,000 disabled children who received support and treatment at the Information and Consulting Service.

The Centre also provides assistance, including counselling and financial help, to parents and families of disabled children, with special focus on supporting women marginalized and victimized by their husbands and families due to the condition of their children.
