UNESCO chief visits National Library of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Irina Bokova visited National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi on 25 August 2013.

During the visit, the delegation familiarized with the Symposium Palace and National Library, where modern information-library technologies were demonstrated.

Irina Bokovo familiarized with the Book Museum, including original book of Abu Hasan al-Movardi "Al-Ahkom as-sultoniya va-l-valoyot ad-diniya", which was written in Baghdad in 1058.

UNESCO chief also visited the Children Room of the library, book shop, branch of Book Café, as well as existing opportunities on use of Wi-Fi, rent of netbooks and tablets. Ms Bokova registered as a user of the National Library. She noted high quality and speed of services.

Irina Bokova visited the third floor of the library, where she visited reading rooms, equipped with modern computer equipment, including infokiosks. Infokiosks provide information on latest information on library activities, online resources, audio resources, etc.

She also got familiarized with the UN Resource Room, which was launched on 12 August 2013. She viewed the resources on the activities of the UN in Uzbekistan.

The guest also visited foreign literature reading room Jahon, which offers books in 75 foreign languages. The reading room is popular among users, who study foreign languages.

Director General of the UNESCO underlined that National Library is a standard of the library of the 21st century, which has all conditions for users.

At the end of the visit, Irina Bokova left a note in the guest book, expressing her impression with modern complex of the library and quality of offered services.
