UN Volunteers to help to prevent various diseases
The participants discussed development of volunteerism and mechanisms for implementation of planned joint activities to improve the medical culture and knowledge of the population about the prevention of pulmonary, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal diseases, as well as maternal and child health.
First Deputy Minister of Health Kuralbai Kamalov said that cooperation with the UN Joint Programme gives positive experience in the social sphere. In particular, based on the experience of the previous project, he stressed importance of volunteerism to support initiatives in the health system.
The participants considered the main tasks of development of volunteers, including selection and training volunteers on the ground, involvement of primary health care workers, community activists in the ranks of volunteers, as well as cooperation of partner organizations to develop volunteerism.
The participants considered developed methodology on assessment of the basic knowledge of the population on above-mentioned diseases, date and mechanisms of conducting study among the population.
It was noted that over 2,000 community volunteers will be training within the UN Joint Programme to improve medical culture and knowledge of population in targeted districts of Karakalpakstan – Muynak, Kungrad, Kanylkul, Shumanay, Khodjeyli, Takhtakupir, Karauzyak, Chimbay, Kegeyli and Nukus.
