UN Special Representative Visits Namangan to Assess Cross-Border Development Projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Kaha Imnadze, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Central Asia and Head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), visited Namangan region as part of the III International Forum “From Poverty to Prosperity,” held on 17–18 September.

During the visit, Imnadze met with households benefiting from the FAO-led project “Shared Prosperity through Cooperation in the Border Areas of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan”, funded by the UN Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund. He reviewed the achievements of initiatives aimed at enhancing socio-economic cooperation in the border regions of the two countries.

The project strengthens trust between local authorities, communities, and civil society, while creating new opportunities for women and youth. Beneficiaries highlighted that modern agricultural practices introduced under the project improved living standards and expanded cross-border collaboration.

"Across Central Asia, we see that cooperation—both within countries and between them—can deliver tangible results for people and communities," said Imnadze.

The visit was organized by the FAO Representation in Uzbekistan in collaboration with UNRCCA, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Uzbekistan, and local authorities. Representatives of various UN agencies also participated.

The trip underscored the UN’s continued commitment to promoting peace, cooperation, and sustainable development in Uzbekistan and across Central Asia.
