Two Officials Detained in Ferghana in Corruption Cases
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Ferghana region, two cases of corruption involving government officials have been uncovered, the State Security Service reported.
In the first case, the head of a district gas supply department, abusing his official position, demanded US$1,000 from each of ten families to connect their homes to the high-pressure gas network. The total illicit payment amounted to US$10,000. During an operation conducted by the State Security Service in cooperation with the Department under the General Prosecutor’s Office, the official was detained through a mediator at the moment of receiving the money.
It was noted that he had previously been brought to court but continued illegal activities. A criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 210, Part 2, Clause “v” of the Criminal Code, and he has been placed in custody.
In the second case, the chief specialist of the territorial inspection for construction and housing and communal services in Ferghana region was detained. According to investigators, he demanded US$5,000 to process documents for unfinished buildings in a plot in Kuva district, promising to resolve the matter through contacts in cadastral and architectural organizations. He was apprehended by the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes while receiving US$1,000.
A criminal case has been initiated against him under Articles 25 (Part 3), 28, 211 (Part 1), and 168 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He has also been placed in custody as a preventive measure.
