Two Fraudsters Promising Overseas Jobs Detained in Namangan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Namangan, two men were detained on suspicion of fraud, allegedly offering citizens employment abroad under false pretenses.
According to the State Security Service, one of the detainees, posing as an employee of a private employment agency, deceived four residents of Turakurgan District. He promised to arrange jobs in South Korea “through personal connections” and demanded $2,000 from each victim. The fraudster was apprehended by officers from the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes while receiving a $1,000 advance payment.
In another case, the head of a tourist company operating in Namangan demanded 40 million soums from a fellow resident, promising employment in Slovakia through his acquaintances in official positions. He was detained while receiving $600 and 2.8 million soums, allegedly intended for visa processing.
Authorities noted that this individual had previously been held accountable for fraud but committed a similar offense again.
Criminal cases have been initiated under Part One of Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (“Fraud”), and investigations are currently ongoing.
